Matt Levinson, Culture Policy Lead, Committee for Sydney:
“Sydney’s night time economy is a $102 billion a year powerhouse that fuels the state’s economy, drives talent attraction, investment and tourism – it makes sense to give it all the support we can.
“What we’ve seen so far of this proposal promises to expand the options for places to go out, whether it’s in established nightlife districts or closer to home, while getting the balance right for local communities, and that can only be a good thing for Sydney.
“We love this focus on vibrant districts like Burwood’s Chinatown, and the twin precincts of Canley Heights and Canley Vale – the lesson from covid was plenty of people want to go out in their own part of town, and given half a chance they’ll cross town to check out a place that’s buzzing.
“We can’t wait to see these new districts build on the success of early movers like the original special entertainment precinct on Enmore Road.”
