A new Trackhead for the Great North Walk (GNW) via Christie Park at Macquarie Park
Leigh Shearer-Heriot

To provide better community access to GNW, and access to accommodation for GNW walkers

Creek by Parramatta Council.

From Talavera Rd , we take Christie Rd over the M2. Passing through the carpark, we cross the large mowed grass area adjacent heading north east to a narrow bush track. This short track descends to the Lane Cove River. At this point the river is very shallow but the addition of larger stepping stones would improve the river crossing. On the opposite side of the river, another short track leads to the Great North Walk.

* For overnight accommodation follow Talevera Rd north-west from Christie Rd.

* For the transport hub, follow Talavera Rd south-east to Herring Rd and turn right.

TRANSFORMATIONAL IDEA

Gives direct access to this section of the GNW, via a major transport hub, and ex-cellent access to overnight accommodation for the through-walker, difficult to find in these more urbanised sections of the Walk.

DELIVERS GREAT PUBLIC SPACE

Transforms Christie Park from a local sports precinct into an important trackhead for one of the most city-adjacent long-distance walks in Australia.

A BETTER LIFE FOR SYDNEYSIDERS

By giving access to the Macquarie Park major public transport hub, this section of the GNW will be serviced by public transport from areas as diverse as Auburn, Black¬town, Rouse Hill, Castle Hill, Hornsby, Epping, Mona Vale, Gordon, Chatswood and Sydney city.
