A smart parking system that facilitates public access to facilities during the pandemic

During the pandemic period, the importance of public facilities that supports physical and mental health of residents has been highlighted. The parking lots are often considered as passive and functional spaces on street. Also, the additional time on looking for parking means increased chance of being infected or infecting others. Smart street designs will reshape the city’s future by improving livability and accessibility to public facilities.

Meanwhile, Australia’s low-rise residential development policy means street parking plays an important part in our mobility. Without a parking information system, we have to roam from one street to another in order to find a vacant parking space. This will not only generate unnecessary CO2 emission but also increase the chance of accidents because of the pressure in looking for parking. Smart parking based on smart street lights enables cost-effective transformation of streets to deliver multiple benefits to the society.
