Harri Bancroft, Mobility Policy Manager at the Committee for Sydney (she/her):
“Getting kids walking and cycling is one of the best urban investments we can make as a city.
“It helps kids stay healthy and it’s one of the most effective ways to reduce congestion on the roads.
“The fact we’ve allowed the number of kids walking and cycling to school to fall to just 1-in-5 is a major policy failure – this investment is a great step towards changing the trend.
“To give this the best shot of success, we think local kids and their school communities should be involved in helping design safe ways to get to school, supported by broader policy changes like 30 km/h on local streets and longer crossing times at the lights.
