Gabriel Metcalf, CEO of the Committee for Sydney:

“This is a game changing project that will get people inspired about Sydney’s future and kickstart our economic recovery on the other side of the pandemic.

Linking together the cities of the Sandstone Megaregion with fast rail means people have more choice – about where they work, where they live, and how they get around.

Better connections across this geography means we effectively work like a bigger global city, with more economic gravitational pull.

On current plans, the state’s tunnel boring machine will be out of work in about 2026 as Sydney Metro tunnel projects wind up – let’s keep it in a job a bit longer, with a tunnel to Gosford being the obvious first stage toward a one-hour rail trip to Newcastle.”
