The waterfront neighbourhood of Wynyard Quarter wasn’t always a spot where you could have your feet planted firmly on dry land. Before being reclaimed, it was the tidal shoreline of the Waitematā Harbour, and looked very different to what you see today.
At this member-exclusive event, Rod Marler (on behalf of Auckland Council) shared a deep dive of the lessons learnt in leading Wynyard Quarter’s urban renewal, including the challenges and opportunities of co-design, land use transition, feasibility and packaging for the private sector, and the big wins and lost battles.
Our Policy Manager, Estelle Grech, then led a panel discussion with Annie Tennant and Tom Gellibrand about the key ingredients for waterfront renewal in Sydney, tackling an important question – who does the waterfront belong to?
