The Committee for Sydney recently held a roundtable discussion with with the Hon. Dr Andrew Leigh MP, Shadow Assistant Treasurer and Shadow Minister for Competition & Productivity.
Members were treated to a presentation from Dr Leigh on his new book: Choosing Openness – Why Global Engagement is Best for Australia. Choosing Openness argues that Australia’s past prosperity has flowed from engaging with the world and that an open Australia requires stronger advocacy and smarter policies.
Dr Leigh is one of Federal Parliament’s sharpish thinkers. A former Professor of Economics at Australian National University, he holds a PhD in public policy from Harvard, having graduated from the University of Sydney with first class honours in Law and Arts. He has been Labor’s Shadow Assistant Treasurer and Shadow Minister for Competition since 2013.
