The Committee for Sydney has been active in calling for a clear and compelling narrative that captures the complexity of our city. A compelling and authentic narrative can be enormously effective in attracting visitors, investment and talented people to Sydney. To help Sydney understand what such a narrative might look like, we were delighted to host Carolien Gehrels, European Cities Director for Arcadis, for a keynote address on the DNA of cities.
Carolien Gehrels is the former Deputy Mayor of Amsterdam. During her tenure in the Amsterdam government, she played a leadership role in developing the iAmsterdam campaign – probably the world’s most effective modern city narrative and campaign.
