The Committee for Sydney recently held an evening policy discussion with the Professor Andrew McNaughton, Strategic Technical Adviser to HS2 (UK), the largest infrastructure project in Europe. Professor McNaughton is also Chair of the International Railways Union inter-city and high-speed rail forum.

The evening explored global experiences of high-speed and faster rail projects in order to identify lessons to be learnt for an Australian context. The event was also topical in advance of the Committee’s upcoming report on the need for faster rail connecting Sydney to Wollongong, Gosford and Newcastle.

The Committee was also pleased to be joined at the dinner by John Alexander MP, former Chair of the Federal Infrastructure, Transport and Cities Committee and a leading Parliamentary expert on high-speed rail.

The event was attended by key stakeholders from business, government and the civic sector across Greater Sydney.
